Colourful, lively and full of anticipation for summer – that’s Easter with geraniums! These low-maintenance flowering beauties add bright splashes of colour and can be incorporated into a wide variety of decorative arrangements. Whether in vases, on trays, or as the centrepiece of your Easter table, geraniums lend a special touch to the festivities. The experts at Pelargonium for Europe (PfE) share suggestions for a blooming Easter, including lovingly designed table displays and simple craft ideas.
A festively decorated Easter table in vintage cottage style
Lush geranium blossoms in shades of apricot, pink and white fill five glass vases, arranged in a metal holder decorated with Easter bunnies.

This creates a romantic focal point on this festively laid, vintage-style outdoor table. Artistically decorated eggs, soft cushions with Easter motifs, wooden, rabbit head egg cups and elegant napkin rings, featuring little bunnies, complement this pretty table setting.

A charming highlight is the rabbit figure pushing a wheelbarrow full of white and pink geraniums, which is sure to attract everyone’s attention. Together with the floral arrangements, it creates an atmospheric Easter table with a playful, cottage feel.
Craft project: Geranium-filled eggshell vases
A creative alternative to the traditional Easter wreath: Eggshells are transformed into little vases on a tray and filled with geranium flowers. Surrounded by twigs, moss and quail eggs, this charming table decoration combines a natural rustic feel with springtime flowers and can be made in no time.

What you need: chicken eggs, a zinc or wooden tray, small branches, moss, quail eggs for decoration, water, geranium flowers in pink, fuchsia or white.
Here’s how to do it:
- Prepare the egg vases. Open the eggs in different ways depending on your desired look: to create a larger opening, carefully cut off the top third and tip out the contents, or simply spoon out the contents of hard-boiled eggs. If you want a smaller opening, pierce the eggs at the top and bottom and blow them in the usual way.
- Rinse the eggshells thoroughly and leave them to dry (rub with a little vinegar if necessary).
- Dye or paint your eggs as desired. Whole eggs can be dyed in the usual way and then opened. Eggshells that have already been opened are best decorated from the outside using a brush, sponge or pen to keep the inside clean. Place blown eggs on a toothpick or kebab skewer to prevent them from breaking during dyeing. This makes them easier to handle and ensures an even colour.

4. Fill the egg vases with a little water, then arrange fresh geranium flowers inside.
5. Arrange them on the tray and decorate with twigs, moss and quail eggs.
6. Change the water regularly to keep the flowers fresh.
Tip: Chicken eggs are ideal for small flowers, while goose eggs offer more space for fuller arrangements. Quail eggs are decorative due to their speckled shells and are best used as a finishing touch.
Geraniums as Easter flowers
Geraniums can only make their grand entrance into the garden when the weather is consistently mild enough for them to be moved outside. However, these summer classics can be used much earlier for Easter decorations. Noble pelargoniums are perfect for this: when cultivated as houseplants, they display their magnificent flowers from March onwards, bringing fresh colours into your home.
However, other types such as classic zonal and trailing varieties, can also bloom at Eastertime if grown in a conservatory, greenhouse, or other bright, warm location. This means these popular summer bloomers can be incorporated into decorative arrangements early in the year, adding a special, colourful touch to Easter celebrations.
